It isn't too difficult to find organisations promoting the benefits of yoga in pregnancy, but it makes more sense to share other mums' experiences as they describe the benefits of pregnancy yoga classes that have made a real difference for them.
After all, pregnancy is a special and unique experience for each of us, but can also be a bewildering time full of uncertainty.
Who better to reassure you than our mums-to-be, sharing insights and experience on the benefits of pregnancy yoga classes.
Oh, and in case you are left in any doubt after reading these, yes, Deb Callan really enjoys her classes...
Learn techniques for an easier birth
“Your classes have always provided me with an oasis and when I gave birth to Bella, I found it very easy to recall a lot of what had been taught and relied very heavily on the breathing techniques and positions/ways of moving that we had practiced in class. Deb Callan, Chesham
“It totally exceeded my expectations in the additional information, tips, support and social side of meeting people in the local area which means it’s always a very enjoyable class to come to each week and allows you to share any pregnancy concerns or joys with people in a similar situation. Kate Cosgrove, Chalfont St. Peter
“I find the classes really beneficial and enjoyable with honest and informative advice. Candle breath was especially useful in my previous labour where I used it to stay relaxed and deal with my contractions. My midwife actually asked me who had taught me the technique. Helen Turnock, Little Chalfont
“My expectations have been surpassed by the informative and supportive nature of the classes. Hilary McGeough, Amersham
Enjoy your pregnancy yoga class
“It has been a fantastic opportunity to unwind at the end of a day and focus on just me and my baby in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. I have loved learning new ways to breath and new exercises to help relax and strengthen my pelvic floor!!! Tracy Schonfeldt, Hedgerley
“I find your classes very relaxing – but challenging. You acknowledge the human aspects of pregnancy – the things that we all go through but not necessarily feel able to discuss with doctors or mid-wives. You engender a feeling of trust and harmony amongst the group and you provide us with clear guidelines, practical exercises and achievable goals week on week. Deb Callan, Chesham
“Choi’s warm and clam manner meant that I looked forward to going to classes. The classes gave me the chance to unwind and pick up tips that helped me during labour as well as relieving the back pain that I was having from the pregnancy. In addition, the group was warm and enthusiastic and I felt at home – it was a great way to meet other mums-to-be. I came home chilled out and relaxed. Helen Buttress, Chesham Bois
“I enjoy being able to talk about any physical niggles and advice on positions to help them. This information is not necessarily available from Dr. or midwife and it helps knowing that other mums may share the same issues too. Rachael Carr, Amersham
Pregnancy yoga for your second pregnancy
“The classes offer essential pregnancy exercise and birthing techniques, relaxation as well as a chance to talk and meet other pregnant women – a kind of cross between an NCT class, active birth class and yoga class. I especially enjoyed it second time round because it is the only hour of the week that I spend time thinking about my new baby. Angela Jessop, Holmer Green
“As a 3rd time mum, after the contrasting experiences of a long hospital birth and a quick unplanned home birth, I want to make sure that I am prepared for anything this time round. The class is helping me to prepare physically and more importantly mentally for the birth I would like and is a great accompaniment to the antenatal system provided by the NHS. Victoria Topham, Chalfont St. Peter
“The classes exceeded my expectations. I did not realise how much help they would be, not only throughout my pregnancy but also through the both of my births as I was able to put the breathing techniques into practice during my labour. The classes gave me a chance to bond with my baby, I was able to meet other mums and share our pregnancy experiences. I would recommend the classes to other mums-to-be! Sam McEwen, Amersham
Meet other mums-to-be in Buckinghamshire
“I enjoy the chance to focus on the baby; to focus on myself; to hear other people’s experiences; to learn more about the way my body works and how it might react during labour. Deb Callan, Chesham
“I came to Choi’s class a novice to yoga and found that not only did I thoroughly enjoy the yoga but that it was an evening of me and bump time. I came out of her classes relaxed and I learnt a lot about the labour and after (which was invaluable!) and got to meet other pregnant mothers. I would unreservedly recommend Choi’s classes to anyone. Natasha Michel, Amersham
“I look forward to class every week – it’s so lovely to spend time with other mums to be and do some gentle exercise and learn how to listen to my body. Hayley Ellerby, Chesham
“The classes taught me breathing techniques, exercises to help my body adjust and relax, useful tips and a feeling of being among ”my own kind”! Kate Woods, Chalfont St Peter
Prepare for birth calmly, confidently
“Choi provided me with much more than a few breathing techniques and yoga positions to utilise during labour. I finished the course brimming with confidence that I would be able to deal with the labour and birthing experience on my own if necessary. Choi’s teaching style is non-judgmental and not without good humour, and she also possesses a breadth of knowledge on childbirth, pregnancy conditions/complaints, bonding with your baby and of course yoga and relaxation. Knowing it was highly likely that I could give birth at home before the midwife would arrive, I needed the confidence to know I could achieve it in a safe and controlled manner, and that I gained from just a handful of sessions on the course.
