Pregnancy Yoga Classes

Pregnancy yoga (also known as prenatal or antenatal yoga) is a perfect way to include some gentle exercise into your routine as it helps to promote relaxation and is a safe, gentle form of exercise whilst pregnant.

Classes are held on Wednesday evenings at 7.00 p.m. and at 8.15 p.m. at: St. George’s Church, White Lion Road, Little Chalfont HP7 9LW.
*Please enter the hall via the back entrance, marked Parish Office.

Can I try it out to see if I like it?

Of course! Register for free, we'll send a link to a more detailed history form, pay for a single class and come and join us, with no obligation to take a course. We like everyone to try a class before they decide to take a course of classes; we feel it’s unfair to ask you to pay for a course until you know you like it. We hope you won’t be disappointed!

Which class is right for me?

If you are in your last trimester (26 weeks +) then the 7.00 p.m. class is for you. These are more focussed birth preparation classes and we deal with different aspects of labour such as birth positions and specific techniques to help birth your baby gently.

The 8.15 p.m. class is for those in the early to mid stages of pregnancy (14 weeks +). You will become familiar with breathing techniques to help you in your pregnancy and your labour, learn about postural awareness and how to adapt your movements to accommodate your changing body shape, start to locate and strengthen the different parts of your pelvic floor and meet other mums to be.

What if I can’t get to the 7.00 p.m. class?

You can start in the early and mid pregnancy exercise classes and then move to the last trimester classes when it feels right for you. If you tire more easily as you reach the last trimester of your pregnancy and would prefer to come to the earlier class but the time doesn't suit you, don't worry; it’s O.K. to stay in the 8.15pm class as we can easily make modifications for those in the later stages of pregnancy.

What does it cost?

Each class costs £12.  If you decide you want to sign up after trying your first class, you can book 5 classes for £60 or sign up for 10 classes at £120.  If you prepay for 10 classes, you get an 11th class free as a 'thank you' for signing up for 10 classes.

What if I am away or ill and miss a class from the course?

We give you an overrun for life getting in the way, so if you have pre-paid for a set of 5 classes, you have 6 weeks to use them up in.
If you prepay for a set of 10 classes you have 3 months to take them.

What if my baby comes early?

Hopefully, you will find that what you have learnt in class came in useful! Of course, we'll refund you for any remaining classes not taken.

What do we do in class?

Both classes include gentle exercises and stretches, breathing techniques and pelvic floor exercises as well as relaxation and calming visualisations and meditation techniques to help you bond with your baby and prepare for your baby’s arrival.

What should I bring?

You will need:

  • A non-slip yoga mat. You needn't buy a mat for your first try, and we'll give you advice on where to buy them and what to look for.
  • A pillow or cushion, or two. These are to support you in your yoga class, to make positions more comfortable and easier to achieve.
  • A blanket or two. Useful both as extra padding on the floor, and to keep warm and cool down slowly after exercise.

What should I wear?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to move about in. There are changing facilities available at the venue should you need them.

Do I need to be really bendy? I have never done yoga before…

Don’t worry – no previous experience of yoga is necessary. Pregnancy is a special time of your life so the pregnancy yoga we do is adapted to suit your special circumstances. We focus on different aspects of yoga such as breathing, relaxation, gentle movement and acceptance.

Is yoga a safe pregnancy exercise?

Our style of Yoga is gentle and safe for all women, whether new to yoga or with years of practice. Simplicity in practice relies on a growing understanding of the effects of yoga on women’s physiology supported by the latest scientific research and exchanges among midwives worldwide. We also have full insurance and criminal record certificates for the protection of our students.

I already do yoga. How will pregnancy yoga classes differ from a regular class?

As your body changes, you may find that certain poses are uncomfortable to practice in your regular yoga class. In these pregnancy yoga classes, we adapt traditional postures or asanas and combine rhythmical sequences in combination with the breath to the needs of your changing body.
